19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after that period of 2023.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to force a decider.

He defended 4 initial opportunities in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
