The speculation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
